What is the phone number for unemployment in South Carolina?

DEW's phone directory calls 1-866-831-1724 the TelClaim claimant self-service line, and it is the number for almost anything about your own claim. A few problems have a DEW line of their own, and calling the right one first saves a transfer.

Which DEW number to call for what

The call center hours in the answer above are for the 1-866-831-1724 line. To fix a mistake on a claim, DEW says to call it and speak to a claims specialist, because nothing can be changed online once you have reached the completion page of an initial claim or a weekly certification. Where a row shows Relay 711, that is how DEW prints the number; 711 is DEW's TTY number.

For a general question that needs none of your claim details, DEW's UI Webform answers by email and can spare you the hold time. Help in a language other than English

DEW's Claimant Handbook says free help is available if you do not speak English: call 1.866.831.1724 and ask for assistance in your language.

The UI Webform also comes in Spanish, as the formulario web del seguro de desempleo, for general questions only.

Migrant and seasonal farmworkers can call DEW's farmworker helpline at 1-877-244-4081, Relay 711, to discuss their rights or report unlawful conditions. It answers in English and Spanish, and callers may stay anonymous.

If a language barrier keeps you from doing the weekly job searches online, DEW may waive them for good cause, deciding case by case. The weekly claims guide has the work search rules.

What an SC Works Center does, and what it leaves to DEW's line

An SC Works Center is a staffed office where you can file for unemployment or search for work in the resource room, and get reemployment help from staff. Its computers, internet, copiers, printers, and fax machines are free to use for a job search.

A center does not replace the claims line. In the Waccamaw area (Conway, Georgetown, and Kingstree), the centers say plainly that they redirect unemployment questions to 1-866-831-1724. Before staff help you at any center, you may need to complete a verification process with documents; the job search guide says who needs it.

If DEW calls you to an in-person Reemployment Services Eligibility Assessment (RESEA) or Workforce Reemployment Assistance Program (WRAP) appointment, DEW's list of Employment Service Offices shows where they are held. The weekly claims guide explains the appointments.

Centers open by appointment or on short hours

Every center in the Pee Dee area is open by appointment only: Bennettsville, Dillon, Florence, Hartsville, and Marion. The Upper Savannah area (Greenwood, Laurens, and Newberry) says it serves people at all of its centers but prefers appointments, booked through the area's own website. The same notice then says its other centers serve people by phone during their normal hours, so call before you go.

The Laurens Center moved on August 5, 2026, to 291 Professional Park Road, Clinton, SC 29325, so the list below shows it under Clinton. It is open Monday to Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at (864) 358-0090.

The Chester Center's posted hours, Monday to Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., are for its resource room only.

The Bishopville Center sits in the Lee County Library and opens on Thursdays only: 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the first Thursday of the month, and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the others. SC Works prints (803) 432-5153 for it, the same number it gives the Camden Center.

The Berkeley Center in Moncks Corner has no phone in the list below. SC Works gives its number as 843-761-4400, with hours of Monday to Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., closed 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. SC Works Berkeley also provides unemployment and job search services at the Berkeley County Library, 1003 Highway 52, Moncks Corner, SC 29461, for people with an active Berkeley County library card or proof of residency. SC Works adds that services are still available at the Charleston and Dorchester centers.

SC Works Centers by city

Connection Points, the more than 150 libraries, community centers, and nonprofits with free public computers, are not on this list. DEW says it does not own, control, or monitor those places or their computers, and each one sets its own status locally, so call ahead before you go.
